Samhain is a pagan religious festival originating from an ancient Celtic spiritual tradition. In modern time Samhain is usually celebrated from October 31 to November 1 to welcome in the harvest and usher in “the dark half of the year.” Celebrants believe that the barriers between the physical world and the spirit world break down during Samhain, allowing more interaction between humans and denizens of the Otherworld.
How do we honor our ancestors? What are the rituals necessary to mark this time?
You do not need to build an ancestor altar. You do not need to trace your bloodline back ten generations. Ancestry is not just a lineage. It is a nonlinear tangle of animacy with multiple points of entry. Ancestry extends beyond the human, it is an energetic field we can tap into.
Your body is an ancestor. Your body is an altar to your ancestors. The left shoulder stands for female blood line, the right shoulder holds energetic patterns of your fathers and forefathers. Let`s invite healing for all these generations.
